Before you travel
Understanding Umrah
Umrah is a sacred pilgrimage to Makkah that may be performed at any time of the year. It consists of entering the state of Ihram, performing Tawaf around the Ka‘bah, Sa‘i between Ṣafā and Marwah, and concluding with Halq or Qasr.
Allah says in the Qur’an:
“And complete the Hajj and Umrah for Allah.”
— Surah Al‑Baqarah (2:196)
Pilgrims benefit greatly when they understand these steps before travelling, rather than learning them in haste after arrival.

Before travelling for Umrah, kindly allow yourself time to prepare — not only luggage and documents, but also the heart and mind. From personal experience of assisting pilgrims and visiting the Haramain, we have seen that those who prepare calmly and correctly are able to focus better on worship and experience greater peace during their journey.
This guide shares timeless preparation principles, supported by Qur’an and authentic (Ṣaḥīḥ) Hadith, wherever appropriate.
Who May Perform Umrah
Please remember that Islam is a religion of ease and mercy. Umrah is prescribed for:
A Muslim who has reached maturity and sound understanding
Those who have physical and financial ability
Women, according to Islamic guidelines regarding maḥram or accepted scholarly concessions
Children may accompany parents, with proper care and guidance.

Choosing the Right Time for Umrah
While Umrah can be performed all year, pilgrims should understand general patterns:
Less crowded periods: After Hajj season, mid-year months
Cooler weather: Winter months
High crowd periods: Ramadan, school holidays

Passport and Visa Preparation
Please kindly ensure your travel documents are prepared well in advance:
Passport with at least six months validity
Correct personal details matching official records
Umrah visa issued through authorized channels
While visa procedures may change over time, accurate documentation remains essential for every pilgrim.

Understanding Ihram
Ihram is not merely clothing; it is a state of worship and intention.
Where and When to Enter Ihram
Ihram must be assumed before crossing the Miqāt
Pilgrims travelling by air are advised to wear Ihram garments at home or before boarding, and make intention when the Miqāt is announced
Clothing Guidelines
Men: Two unstitched white cloths (izar and rida)
Women: Modest regular clothing; face covering (niqab) and gloves are not worn in Ihram

Begin light walking exercises 2–4 weeks before travel
Consult a doctor if managing diabetes, blood pressure, heart conditions, or joint issues
Carry personal medicines with prescription
Stay hydrated and rest when required
